Company trumps space, I have always felt. The right friend, your beloved, the perfect alchemy of a good group of people is magic. The space they are in is secondary, maybe irrelevant. But life is long, in its way, and most of it isn’t spent riffing with your homies. Most of it is a kind of nothingness. Walking. Cooking, eating, and cleaning. Getting ready for and going to work. Coming home. Getting ready for bed. Waking up. Peeling potatoes. Over time, space becomes the thing you spend the most time with. The space where the nothingness of life happens is mostly everything.
